Euskal Oiloa
The Euskal Oiloa the traditional chicken of the Basque rural economy. The breeding of the Euskal Oiloa was begun in 1975s.
Euskal Oiloa breed standard was officially approved on 15 March 2001. It is included in the official list of indigenous Spanish breeds in the royal decree of 26 December 2008. At the end of 2013 a population of 10,872 birds was reported, all from the País Vasco.
- Weight : Hen 2.5kg / Rooster 3.6kg
- Eggs: Euskal Oiloa will lay up to 209-220 large cream coloured egg per year.
- Hardiness: more heat hardy than cold hardy but will still fare well in Nova Scotia winter.
- Behaviour: Friendly, curious, fearless and extremely good with children, the Euskal Oiloa is a great addition to any flock and/or family.
- Type: dual purpose.
- Broody: not very much.
